✦  TODAY IN DREAM SIGNS
Why You Forget by the Kettle
Your brain is built to erase your dreams, and there is one thing that catches them.
I WILL TRY THIS TONIGHT

TODAY’S PRACTICE
Get the Guide
WEDNESDAY, 7 OCTOBER
Dear friend,
I had a dream I could have drawn. By the time the kettle boiled, every image in it was gone. I could feel the shape of it still sitting there, like a name I almost had, and then that went too.
There is a notebook on the floor by the bed now (the pen rolled under the radiator for the first three mornings, which tells you how well the system was going). It stayed blank for a week, and then one morning there was a word. Just one, in handwriting I barely recognised, because I had written it half asleep.
Whether it works every time, I have no idea. But I wanted to know why it worked at all, so I looked it up.

What Happens While You Sleep
During REM sleep, norepinephrine, a chemical your brain uses to help store new memories, drops to its lowest point. The result is vivid experience with no way to file it, because the filing system is turned down for the night.
In the lab, about 80 percent of people woken from REM sleep can describe what they were dreaming, yet in ordinary life young adults remember one or two a week. The difference is the window after waking: a few minutes in which the images are still there, fading fast, while you reach for the kettle or check the time.
The forgetting may not even be accidental. In 2019, researchers found neurons in mice that fire during REM sleep specifically to erase what had just been stored. Nobody has confirmed the same thing happens in people, so it stays a mouse finding for now, though it suggests the erasure is something the sleeping mind does on purpose.
“ It stayed blank for a week, and then one morning there was a word.

This Is How Your Drinking Water Speeds Up Memory Loss By 50%

Scientists at the University of New Mexico just made a shocking discovery:

Inside the water you drink every single day, there are invisible toxic shards silently building up inside your brain…

Strangling your brain cells like a snake…

Crushing the connections that keep your memory sharp…

And speeding up memory loss by 50% every 8 years.

If you want to see what's erasing your memory daily — and stop it before it's too late — you need to check this out now:

The Diary Effect
A study in 2002 gave 285 people a dream diary and asked them to use it for two weeks. Low recallers and medium recallers both remembered more, which the researchers said was because the diary focused attention on dreams. It just gave them somewhere to put what they saw.
A later study confirmed that the effect is genuine and not explained by people simply thinking they recall more because someone asked them to try. The diary catches the forgetting window: you write before the erasing is done, and over days the habit seems to teach your mind to hold the images a little longer.
Nobody can say with certainty why, though the simplest explanation is that you get better at noticing what was already there.

How to Start Tonight
Put a notebook and a pen within arm's reach of the bed. Not a phone, because the screen wakes up the part of you that wants to explain things, and the feeling goes. On waking, lie still and let images come back, then write whatever is there: a face, a colour, a word, a feeling.
The first few mornings may be blank. Completely blank. That is ordinary, so put down "nothing today" and close the notebook, because what matters is that you reached for it.
✦  WRITE BACK
If you try the notebook tonight, tell me what was there in the morning. Even if it was nothing.
TELL ME HOW IT WENT
You do not need the whole dream. One word is enough, and some mornings that is all there will be.
Sleep well,
Dream Signs

P.S. The woman downstairs told me she dreams about the same kitchen every night, so I asked her who else was in the room. She said nobody, just the smell of toast, and then she changed the subject.
✦  TONIGHT’S PRACTICE
🌙
The notebook by the bed
Put a notebook and a pen within reach tonight. When you wake, lie still. Write whatever is there, even one word.
TELL ME WHAT YOU WROTE
✦  MANIFESTATION TIP
💡
One sentence before sleep
Before you close your eyes tonight, say one sentence out loud to someone or to the room: what you hope to remember. Name it and let it sit.
WHAT CAME BACK?
Something happen after a dream? Tell me what it was
