The long one
People have read falling as losing your footing in the ordinary sense, meaning money, standing, a job, a marriage, and that is folklore rather than evidence, so weigh it as you like.
It does fit what lands in my postbag, since the long falling dream turns up in weeks where somebody has been holding a position they are not sure they can keep.
And while we are here, you will not die if you hit the ground in a dream. People land all the time and write to tell me about it, usually with some surprise.
The second one does most of the sorting, because slipping and being dropped are different complaints with different people in them.
Solid ground
If the jolt kind is waking you often, treat it as a tiredness problem rather than a message, since it eases when the nights get longer and the evenings get duller.
If it is the long kind, look at where you are standing on something you have not checked in a while, a job, an arrangement, a set of sums you have been avoiding.
Checking usually turns out to be the cure, because a thing you have looked at squarely stops needing to announce itself at four in the morning.

✦ CARRY THESE WITH YOU TODAY
| The ground is nearer than it feels |
| I can check the thing I am standing on |
| Landing is not the end of me |
| Tap the one you need |
✦ WRITE BACK
Yours is either the jolt as you go under or the long drop later on, and I would like to know which.
TELL ME WHICH ONE
The lamp survived, I have been in bed earlier since, and there has been no kerb, which proves nothing and pleases me anyway.
| Sleep well, |
| Dream Signs |
P.S. My daughter arrived in the doorway during all this, took in the lamp and the leg and my face, and said that she gets the kerb one too and that you just keep walking. Tell me how yours goes. Then she went back to bed.
