FRIDAY, 6 NOVEMBER
| Dear friend, |
I washed the dishes twice tonight. Once because they needed it, and once more because the water was warm and I was not ready to let it go.
This week was all water. Monday’s stairwell filling from below while you climbed with a bag you would not put down. Nadia’s swimming pool on Tuesday, clear to the bottom, which somehow made it worse. The notebook on Wednesday, catching dreams before they drained, and Thursday’s question about what you were carrying and who packed it. Five days of being in something up to your chest and not quite saying so.
So tonight there is one question. I am not entirely sure it is the right one, but it is the one that kept coming back all week: what are you in the middle of, right now, that you have not named yet?
That is all, so take it to bed, and if something is there in the morning, write it down.

✦ CARRY THESE WITH YOU TODAY
| I am allowed to be in the middle of something. |
| I do not need to name it all tonight. |
| The answer can wait until morning. |

I will be here on Monday with a new one, and until then, the question is enough.

P.S. My daughter called the bath “thinking water” on Sunday, then asked for a towel and left. Tell me what someone near you has said about water. I am collecting them.
