✦  TODAY IN DREAM SIGNS
The Late Dream
You were supposed to be there. You were not.
And the clock kept moving.
I HAD THIS ONE TOO

TODAY’S SYMBOL
Get the Guide
MONDAY, 26 OCTOBER
Dear friend,
I woke up on Saturday convinced I had missed a train I was never booked on.
The platform looked like Reading, the board said 7:02, and I have no idea where I was going. I only know I was not going to make it.
That is the whole feeling of this dream in one sentence: you are supposed to be somewhere, you are not there, and each step toward it puts you further behind.

What the dream does
It comes in versions: a train, a flight, a room you cannot find. The details change but the machinery stays, because your legs work yet the corridor stretches or you are in the wrong shoes, so you go back, so you lose five more minutes you did not have.
🎯
Late for something I chose
⏳
Never got there
🔍
Could not find the room

Woke up still rushing

What holds every version together is the gap between two yous. One is already there, on time, dressed right. The other is still looking for the gate.
People have said for a long time that the gap is about readiness, not punctuality. You are not afraid of the clock; you are afraid that when the moment comes you will not be the person it needs, which is why the obstacles are always soft: nobody bars your way, you just cannot find your keys.
(This is also, to its credit, the most polite anxiety dream there is. Nothing falls out. You are simply behind.)
“ You are not afraid of the clock; you are afraid that when the moment comes you will not be the person it needs.

The Founding Fathers Had A Soundtrack

George Washington heard it.

Benjamin Franklin heard it.

Paul Revere heard it.

For over 300 years, this was locked inside private ceremonies performed by some of the most powerful men in history.

No recording existed.

No outsider had ever witnessed it.

Until one man… a member for twenty years… broke his oath of silence and captured it.

>> Hear what they heard

This isn’t a modern creation.

Nobody "designed" this in a lab.

It comes from a living tradition that predates the founding of America.

The same ceremony.

The same tones.

Passed down through generations behind closed doors.

The man who recorded it says he felt the effects in his bones the first time he heard it. Goosebumps.

Tears.

A sense that something ancient had just woken up inside him.

He’s now sharing it publicly for the first time.

The men who guard this tradition are not pleased.

But he believes it’s too powerful to keep hidden while good people are struggling.

>> Hear the recording before it’s taken down

P.S. He’s an accountant, not a guru. That’s part of why I trust him.

What you are late for
The harder question is not what you were late for in the dream. It is what you are late for right now, while you are awake.
This dream tends to come when something you want has a window and you suspect the window is closing. A conversation you keep rehearsing. A form you keep opening. A change you keep putting off.
If you can resolve the thing, the dream usually stops, which probably tells you something about what it was for.
✦  BEFORE YOU GET OUT OF BED
Tap one to answer it
1
What am I afraid I am too late for?
2
Whose timing am I trying to match?
3
What would I do if I knew I had not missed it?
4
Where was I trying to get to?
5
What kept slowing me down?
6
What would on time look like for me?
If nothing comes to mind, sit with the feeling instead of the plot. The feeling knows first.

One sentence tonight
The running-late dream is a question dressed as a story, and the question is always the same: are you moving toward the thing, or are you on the platform watching the board?
You do not have to answer that today. You only have to notice which one you are doing, because that noticing is where the dream lets go.
Tonight, name the thing you have been putting off. Not the task: the reason underneath it. One sentence, on a scrap of paper, on the nightstand.
✦  CARRY THESE WITH YOU TODAY
I am not too late.
The window is still open.
I am allowed to get there when I get there.
What I want can wait for me.
I do not need to be ready to begin.
Tap the one you need
✦  WRITE BACK
Which of those six was hard? The one you could not answer, or the one that answered too fast.
TELL ME WHICH ONE
That is all this one is. Not a warning. A question about where you were going, and whether you still want to go.
Sleep well,
Dream Signs

P.S. A man at the fruit shop told me last week he dreams about missing the same train every spring. “I have never owned a ticket,” he said, and went back to weighing plums. Tell me what you were late for. I read every one.
✦  TONIGHT’S PRACTICE
📝
The sentence on the nightstand
Before you close your eyes, write one sentence: not the thing you have been putting off, but the reason underneath it. Leave it where you can see it.
Tell me what you wrote
✦  MANIFESTATION TIP
💬
The destination, out loud
Tell one person the place you are trying to get to. Not the plan, just the place. See what comes back.
What came back
Something change after you named it? Tell me
