FRIDAY, 16 OCTOBER
| Dear friend, |
The same thought keeps coming back. I found it in my notebook three times this week. Three times. I counted, which probably tells you more about me than about the thought.
This week was about the haircut, about what falls away when you cut. Tonight, turn it over: what will not stay gone.

What Came Back Gold
In the Prose Edda, Loki cut the goddess Sif's hair, and what the dwarves forged to replace it was gold that grew as though it had always been hers. People have said this for a very long time, that what comes back is not the same as what was taken.
The worry you keep trimming back, the argument you thought you finished, the want you gave up on: what keeps growing back? And when you look at it now, is it still the same thing it was the first time?
