  • The teeth dream, and what your jaw knows
✦  TODAY IN DREAM SIGNS
Your teeth, coming loose
The heaviest common dream there is, taken apart, with the awkward finding left in.
I HAD THIS ONE TOO

TODAY’S SYMBOL
MONDAY, 10 AUGUST
Dear friend,
I had it on Saturday, the one where a tooth comes away clean in my hand, and I checked my mouth in the bathroom mirror before I was properly awake.
Nothing was loose, obviously, though I stood there a moment longer than I needed to.
It is the dream people mention first when they find out what I do, and they always lower their voice a little, as though this one were more embarrassing than the rest.
So it goes first today, and it goes first with the awkward part left in, because there is one hard finding on this dream and it does not say what the internet says.

What the teeth are doing
Teeth carry more than chewing, since they hold your face in place and let you speak and smile, and somebody with good ones reads as somebody who is managing, so the sleeping mind reaches for them when the subject is your standing rather than your mouth.

They came out in my hand
💥
They crumbled or broke
⏳
They would not stop falling
👀
Somebody saw it happen
Tap the one that fits
The versions people send are oddly specific, because it is rarely a single tooth and rarely painless. Almost everybody remembers what they did with the pieces.
That last part is the tell, since a dream about losing something would be finished at the losing, while these ones keep going and hand you the evidence to hold.
So I read it as a dream about being seen, which is a harder thing to own than losing something, and it explains the lowered voice.
“ Almost everybody remembers what they did with the pieces.

The awkward finding
There is one piece of hard work on this dream, and it does not say what you would want it to say.
Researchers at Ben Gurion University asked two hundred and ten students about their dreams and about their mouths, and teeth dreams tracked with tension in the jaw on waking, while they did not track with distress at all.
I am not sure it settles anything, because the work is correlational and the authors say so themselves, and a jaw can be tight for reasons that have nothing to do with teeth.
✦  BEFORE YOU GET OUT OF BED
Tap one to answer it
1
Where have I been bracing lately?
2
Who am I worried is looking?
3
What did I do with the pieces?
4
What have I stopped saying out loud?
5
Whose opinion of me is doing the most work?
6
Does my jaw hurt this morning?
Both things can be true at once, that your jaw was clenched all night and that you have been bracing for something.

What people have always said
Long before anybody measured a jaw, teeth coming loose was read as a message about the family, and in a good many places it was read as a death coming.
I am not passing that on as fact, because it is what people have said for a very long time, and whether that makes it true is your call.
What I notice is that every one of those old readings is about other people, which sits closer to the being seen part than the anxiety version does.
✦  CARRY THESE WITH YOU TODAY
Nobody is looking that closely.
I can be seen and still be fine.
My jaw can come down now.
I do not have to hold it together today.
What I said was enough.

✦  WRITE BACK
One of those questions is the one you would rather not answer, and that is the one I want.
TELL ME WHICH ONE
If you get this one tonight, check your jaw before you check the meaning, and then tell me both.
Sleep well,
Dream Signs

P.S. My dentist, when I asked whether she could tell, said she always knows before the patient does, then asked me to open wider. If you have been told the same thing, tell me what she said. She did not think it was a spiritual matter.
✦  TONIGHT’S PRACTICE
🦷
Check your jaw first
When you wake, before you reach for the meaning, notice whether your teeth are touching, then write down which came first, the dream or the ache.
Tell me what you wrote
✦  MANIFESTATION TIP
💬
Say the thing you softened
Pick one sentence you made smaller this week to keep the peace, and say it again today at the size it was, to one person.
What came back
Did something happen after a dream this week? Tell me
