| Dear friend, |
There is a face I do on video calls that I only found out about last week, when somebody paused a recording to ask a question and there it was.
Pleasant, attentive, and holding something, and I have no memory of putting it on.
I have been thinking about it since, mostly at the point in the evening when my jaw comes down and I notice it had been up all day.
Which is the thing the teeth dream keeps circling, since what it points at is the holding rather than the losing.
What you have been holding
The jaw is the one muscle that will stay clenched all night without asking your permission, and it is doing a job while it does that, which is keeping your face in the shape you have decided other people should see.
That job is invisible, and it is genuinely useful, since a good deal of ordinary life runs on people holding their faces steady while something goes on underneath.
The cost turns up somewhere else, though, usually in the morning, and usually as an ache you file under sleeping badly.
So what is being asked here is small and specific. Put one of them down, not all of them, and not for good.
