What it asks you to put down
Setting a thing down and throwing it away are two different acts, and people get stuck here, since most of what we carry belongs to somebody we love and dropping it feels like dropping them.
You can put something on the floor for one day and pick it up again on Friday, and nothing much happens, which is worth finding out before you decide the carrying is for good.
Start with the lightest thing you are holding, because the heavy ones come with arguments attached, while the light ones are only habit.
You do not have to get through all of them, since the one you skip is usually the one doing the carrying.

✦ CARRY THESE WITH YOU TODAY
| I can put this down for today |
| Some of it was never mine |
| I can pick it up again later |
| I said yes and I can say no |
| My hands are allowed to be empty |
| Tap the one you need |
✦ WRITE BACK
Of the things in your hands, one could go down today and one certainly could not, and I would like to know which.
TELL ME WHICH ONE
The bag stays in the hall tonight, unopened, which is either a very small experiment or a much larger one, and I will know by the weekend.

P.S. My daughter watched me pick the thing up on the way out this morning and said, without looking up, that I take it to places which do not have any work in them. Tell me what is in your hands. Then she went back to her cereal.
